Kelvin Wong is one of our event managers as well as being a lead facilitator. He therefore has an in-depth knowledge of planning and executing our events, from conception right up to the debrief.
So Kelvin, tell us what you like to do when you’re not organising team building events for clients?
Growing up mainly in the US, I learnt to love basketball and it’s still one of my favourite things to do to relax. I have recently had a baby boy, so don’t have as much time to play as I used to, but still do when I get a chance. I also love to travel, especially exploring cities, so working for Team Building Asia is great in that I get to do a lot of that!
Which is your favourite Team Building programme to run and why?
Chain Reaction – I like it because it’s different every time. We give people the same materials but every time they do something different with them. Different industries, different personalities, you can see the uniqueness in each group in terms of what they produce and I’m always surprised by their ingenuity.
What is your favourite thing about working in this industry?
I love seeing the satisfaction in a group of people who have come together to create something special. I really enjoy facilitating a group and helping them to discuss different issues and learnings, helping to bring them all together in agreement.
One thing we always make sure we do is to link our programmes back to the client’s objectives. All our programmes are metaphors for something in their business life – it’s really satisfying to see them understand that and take those learnings back to the office with them.
Every day is different in this industry. I don’t like being bored, so it’s great for me!
What do you find most challenging about the job?
You need to be flexible in this job, especially on event day. There can be issues with weather, the venue, you need to be able to react quickly and think on your feet. We also work with clients from a variety of industries from all over Asia (and the world) so one thing we always have to think about is how we adapt to the different personalities, nationalities, working cultures and styles. I love how interesting and varied it makes my job.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you take with you?
A basketball – I’d use the time to practice and perfect my three point shot.
We'll be speaking to different members of our team each month, so keep an eye on our blog to meet the whole team!
